Coast-based Radio Station shut down Following Al Shabaab Threats

As if the Westgate Mall attack is not enough, Somali-based militia group, Al Shabaab, has been issuing threats to a Mombasa-based radio station.

According to sources, Radio Salaam in Mombasa has closed down indefinitely following the terror threats. Though the station is still on air, only recorded programmes are being played. Allegedly the militia group had threatened to attack the TSS Tower-based radio station.

Blogger Robert Alai reports that Al-Shabaab believes that Radio Salaam is being used by NSIS to gather intelligence on terrorists hence the need to muzzle it.

Recently KTN aired an alleged investigative piece that claimed the station was intelligence ran.

On the other hand, the station has refuted the claims insisting it was upgrading its transmission;

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to our listeners and clients due to the upgrading of our transmission and studio equipment.We are now live on air to update on the current events…our engineers are working tirelessly to enable us resume normal programming.
