Camp Mulla Face Tough Competition for 2012 BET Awards
Barely three days from their debut performance at the latest eviction party for Big Brother Africa Stargame in Johannesburg, South Africa, Camp Mulla have received yet another sterling boost to their 2.5 Flow rep by being nominated for a 2012 BET Award in the category ‘Best International Act: Africa’.
Following the release of the list of nominees, just over 10 hours ago on a special edition of popular American urban magazine show 106 & Park, it was also announced that the host of this year’s edition of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards would be celebrated African-American actor Samuel L. Jackson.

Camp Mulla however face very stiff competition in their category, as they are up against other established artists from across the continent: Wiz Kid (Nigeria), Lira (South Africa), Ice Prince (Nigeria), Mokobe (Mali) and Sarkodie (Ghana). It will be no walk in the park for the winner as each of these musicians boast consistent and quality pedigree: the likes of Lira who is looking to launch and package her music in the USA and Wiz Kid who prominently featured in both the film and music video to Shuga: Love Sex and Money which has gone global.
Africa has been positively responsive towards Camp Mulla’s reccurent hits which include ‘Addicted’, ‘Party Don’t Stop’, ‘Fresh All Day’ (which they performed at the reality TV show Big Brother Africa recently) as well as their latest music video ‘Hold It Down’, already receiving international acclaim.
The BET Awards were established in 2001 to celebrate African Americans and other ‘minorities’ in a broad range of entertainment fields that include sports, music and acting. Last year’s winner of ‘Best International Act: Africa’ were Nigeria’s 2 Face Idibia and D’Banj.
The first confirmed performers for the 2012 BET Awards are Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj with artistes Kanye West, Jay Z and Beyonce leading the pack in the number of nominations received. The ceremony will be held on the 1st of July 2012 for seventh consecutive time at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California USA.
