Africa Magic Debuts ‘Star Gist’, A New Entertainment Show
Africa Magic this week launched the continent’s very own answer to showbiz buzz, STAR GIST, an up-to-the-minute entertainment and trends news magazine feature. This glamorous new show features behind the scenes footage, continental/international entertainment headlines as well as glitzy and fashion affairs on red carpets and premieres across the globe.
The show’s presenters, equally hip, young and urbane, are 25-year-old Vimbai Mutinhiri who hails from Zimbabwe and 22 year old South African Lawrence Maleka. Lawrence was previously the presenter of popular Soweto TV’s number one ranked youth show where he hosted a music show, ‘Soweto Top 10’. Vimbai, a former Big Brother Amplified contestant, is now a model based in Harare, having started her career at the age of 15 as an actress.
STAR GIST will feature African entertainment news daily and exciting programme segments. Fashionistas will also be excited to see hot ticket red carpet events, and not just the glitz and glamour of the event but details on who was wearing which designer and where. Look out for ‘BTS’, which literally goes behind-the-scenes on shoot locations for music videos, movies and TV shows.
Comedy segment – will be done similar to the celeb profiles except it will feature comedians from all over the continent. There will also be some believe it or not moments as the show takes a peek into the lavish and sometime unbelievable lifestyles of the über rich on ‘Big Bawlerz’.
“STAR GIST will be seen by audiences across the continent and we are hoping the predominantly locally-produced content will appeal to Africa. We’re happy to be able to provide the continent with first class entertainment and up-to-the-minute industry news. The show is well-placed to take the newly rebranded AfricaMagic Entertainment to the next level,” says Biola Alabi, M-Net Africa MD.
The first episode of STAR GIST aired on Monday June 11th at 8.30pm and some of the programme highlights on the channel include: Business movers and shakers being profiled as they share amazing human success stories from around Africa, music reviews, luxury toy round-ups, jets, hot cars, latest gadgets and up-to-the minute technology, such as cool applications for iPods or tablets. Follow the ‘Celeb cam’, where a celeb or artist attends an event and shares their view, their experience, where they were staying and who they were with.
Once a month, audiences can catch up with the STAR GIST US correspondent to see fab Skype interviews on ‘Star News’. The STAR GIST gig guide is a must watch every Monday and Friday, focusing on events around major cities around the continent. Mondays will be the round-up of weekends in Africa while Fridays will kick off the weekend to come.
You can also join the STAR GIST viewer paparazzi by uploading content onto the Africa Magic site or looking for extra features on news or general information.
