Lupita Nyong’o Earns Nomination For Another Prestigious Award As She Reveals Why She Opted For ‘Small Play’
Lupita Nyong’o is on the verge of earning herself another notable award after she earned a Tony Nomination for her role in the highly acclaimed play Eclipsed.
Lupita who through the play made her first step into Broadway has come out to explain why she picked the role overlooking several major roles and big screen opportunities. Her response which is penned in a letter to the blog Lenny Letter was prompted by a question from a journalist who asked her why a big actress would opt for a role in a small play.
Lupita explains that she felt connected to what the characters in the play were about and that she is not willing to pick just any role because that is what is expected of her but rather she will be be picking what she wants , what she feels connected to and which allows her freedom.
Indeed given the waves the play has made, it seems her decision has been vindicated. Eclipsed became the first play to have an all woman cast along with the director. It is also among the plays with most nominations in this year’s Tony Awards as several of the cast and crew have been nominated.
