Trending Now! Chaos In Kisii University As 10 Campuses Closed And PHDs Revoked
An environment of uncertainty and rioting has engulfed the Kisii University community after the Commission for University Education announced the shutting down of ten of its campuses.
The CUE cited substandard quality levels as the ten campuses failed to meet the minimum threshold expected in a recent audit done by the commission covering all universities.
While some other universities were affected and saw a number of their campuses placed under further review, only Kisii suffered this much with only three of its 13 campuses passing the set requirements.
The affected campuses are Eldoret, Eldama Ravine, Nyamira, Kabarnet, Migori, Ogembo, Keroka, Kehancha, Kapenguria and Isebania. Aside from the shutting down the campus was hit a further blow when the commission nullified 5 PHDs it had awarded to five students and published the report in major newspapers.
The incident saw riots at the university needing the intervention of the County governor James Ongwae. It remains to be seen how the whole incident will pan out as the university denied the shutting down.
