Shocking! President Uhuru’s negative criticisms of Kibaki
Diplomatic cables leaked by Wikileaks reveal a series of stinging criticisms of former President Mwai Kibaki by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the cables, Uhuru portrays Kibaki as a dishonest politician whose administration only benefitted those who around him.
Unlikely allies
The cables were recorded during the time Kenyatta had joined forces with his now arch-nemesis Raila Odinga and other Narc rebels who went on to hand the then President Kibaki a damaging defeat during the 2005 constitutional referendum.
According to the leaks, Uhuru thought Kibaki was ignorant to believe that he could retain power in 2007 easily.

Kenyatta is said to give these stinging views after admitting to seeing the original controversial Narc Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which Raila said the former president failed to honour upon ascension to power.
“He governed not as the head of a coalition, but as the head of his Democratic Party, which represented only one part of Central Province. Once in power he decided there was no need to change the strong presidency and features of the constitution he campaigned against,” the cables report Kenyatta as having said of Kibaki.
The cables were drawn from two meetings held in October 2006 where former US Assistant Secretary of State Jendayi Frazer and Ambassador to Kenya Michael Ranneberger are said to have been present.
