Riots Occur in JKUAT After Student Dies At University Over Alleged Negligence

Students at JKUAT main campus yesterday evening held rowdy riots and protest after one of them had died to what they blamed on the negligence of the University Health officials.

The student is reported to have taken contaminated food from the neighboring community out of campus and complained of abdominal pains. According to the rioting students, he sought treatment from the university’s health facilities only to be ignored by the medics at the university a situation which led to his sudden demise.

The angry student took their protests out of campus and barricaded the road and resorted to stoning the motorists using the highway. It had to take the intervention of the police to disperse the students with the tear gas.
