Tharaka-Nithi deputy governor robbed of Kes 3.5 million at gunpoint in broad daylight by Administration Police guard near Kinoru estate
Constable Josphat Kipyegon who was the bodyguard of the deputy governor turned his gun on his boss and robbed him of Kes 3.5 million in broad daylight.
Tharaka-Nithi deputy governor Dr. Eliud Murithi was robbed of Kes 3.5 million by his bodyguard on Wednesday October 12th.
The deputy governor had just sold a piece of land and was carrying the money in a bag. Constable Josphat Kipyegon, an Administration Police guard who was attached to the deputy governor’s security detail, took the opportunity to be a millionaire and drew his gun ordering his boss to hand over the cash.

Daily Nation reports that the deputy governor had just arrived at his home near Kinoru estate at around 10am (he was from Kathwana where he had sold his land) when his bodyguard attacked him and grabbed the bag containing the 3.5 million shillings.
Dr. Eliud put up a fight trying to stop his bodyguard from robbing him but Constable Josphat Kipyegon drew his pistol and threatened to shoot him.
Fearing for his life, the deputy governor gave up the fight leaving his bodyguard with the cash. Kipyegon fled from deputy governor’s homestead and he was never to be seen again.
Police have since launched a manhunt for their rogue colleague who is said to have fled on a motorbike after robbing the Dr. Eliud Murithi.
