God heard Kenyans’ cries! Kenyan journalists react to Amina Mohammed’s historic lose at AU
President Uhuru’s government fronted Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed for the position of African Union Commission chair. Majority of Kenyans were praying for her failure and the heavens answered their prayers.
Chadian Foreign Minister, Moussa Faki Mahamat, was elected the African Union Commission chair and Kenyans on Twitter erupted with joy and expressed relief.
Majority of Kenyans were sick tired of the government’s decision to prioritize Amina’s candidacy for the AU job over other important issues like ending doctors’ strike.
President Kenyatta met and held talks with President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana , Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, Jacob Zuma of South Africa, Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe Patrice Trovoada, Hage Geingob of Namibia, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and President Paul Kagame, to ask for their support in ensuring Amina Mohammed wins AU Commission chair.
The Foreign Affairs CS and DP Ruto made numerous trips across the continent to lobby for Kenya’s bid for AU commission chair post.
Some Kenyans questioned the cost of shuttle diplomacy to campaign for Amina Mohammed after news came in that she had been defeated; most Kenyans were however in a jubilant mood after her defeat.
Kenyan journalists also reacted to Amina Mohammed’s failure; majority of them were pleased she didn’t win.
