Raila Odinga Admits To Paying Bribe And Warns Of Violence In Next Year’s General In An Exclusive Interview With Al Jazeera (Video)
Cord leader Raila Odinga told Al Jazeera he will not participate in 2017 general elections if Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is not reformed in time.
In an interview with Al Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan held at the Oxford Union in UK, Raila revealed his worry of next year’s general elections, addressed corruption and other pressing issues.
Raila revealed he was worried 2017 elections could turn chaotic going on to say he wouldn’t participate in the elections if IEBC isn’t properly reformed.
“We will not go into the gallows if the Electoral Commission is not properly reformed, there would definitely be no reason for us to participate in the coming elections.” Raila told Mehdi.
The Cord leader also disclosed he had to pay a bribe at a certain point to get something done:
Mehdi: Have you ever had to pay a bribe to get something done?
Raila: (Laughs) The question is when, it’s not if. Because as you have rightfully said every Kenyan does it.
Mehdi: Including the former Prime Minister had to do it to get certain things done bureaucratically?
Raila: Certainly not as a Prime Minister (Laughs)
Mehdi: Will you vie for presidency for the fourth time if you lose 2017 election?
