Uhuru’s sister, cousin to face EACC as Mailu and Muraguri summoned over Sh5 billion scam
Uhuru’s sister Nyokabi Kenyatta Muthama and cousin Kathleen Kihanya are directors of Sundale’s International Limited, a company that was registered in September 2013, five months after Uhuru’s inauguration. The company received Sh41 million in dubious payments, but has since denied that the payouts were irregular.
The firm is one of the four that were contracted to supply food supplements for HIV/AIDS patients and other vulnerable populations.
“More witnesses including suppliers are lined up for interviews,” said Halakhe Waqo, the chief executive of the EACC in a statement that announced the summonses issued to the minister and the principal secretary.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health Cleopa Maillu and the embattled principal secretary Nicholas Muraguri have already been summoned to appear before the country’s anti-corruption body.
The EACC asked Muraguri to show up on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 9am, and the minister will follow up on Thursday at 9am.
The EACC has already questioned the Internal Auditor who authored the report, Mr Bernard Muchere, and the Head of Accounting Unit at the Ministry of Health Joyce Mutugi.
“The commission has been working round the clock and wishes to inform the public that we have called for and received part of the documents from the ministry,” said EACC boss, in a statement notifying the country that the commission had began investigations into “the alleged misappropriation”.
