Gor Mahia to miss out on next season’s continental football cup games

Reigning Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions will not participate in next season’s African cup games even if they win the league this season.
This is after the club failed to beat the Confederation of African Football (CAF) October 31 deadline on club licencing.
According to CAF, all clubs participating in next year’s continental tournaments had until the end of October to comply with the rule, failure to which they risk forfeiting their slots in the tournaments.
Gor Mahia’s chairman Ambrose Rachier blamed some club officials and members aspiring for leadership positions who have frustrated his efforts to enact a new constitution in order to be compliant with the Sports Act which is mandatory before the issuance of the licence.

Rachier complained.
Rachier said they will now have to write to CAF requesting for more time to acquire the licence.
The winners of the KPL are handed the slot to represent Kenya at the prestigious CAF Champions League’s preliminary qualifying stages.
Gor Mahia, who have won the title in the last three consecutive years, are only four points behind leaders Tusker FC with two matches left in the season.
However, Tusker have a tough run heading to the close of season, with matches against AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia on the cards.
The eagerly awaited match on the final day pitting Tusker and Gor Mahia is seen by many to be the title decider between the two rivals.
The two have produced the winner of the KPL in each of the last five seasons.
So far, only two KPL clubs (Tusker and Ulinzi Stars) have complied with the CAF Licencing rules according to the Football Kenya Federation.
