Tusker win 2016 KPL title

Tusker FC were on Sunday crowned the 2016 Kenya Premier League winners, the title which they last won in 2012 after defeating AFC Leopards at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium.
Ugandan defender Shaffiq Batambuze 68 minute penalty was enough to secure the Brewer’s 11 title and deny fierce rivals Gor Mahia a fourth consecutive KPL crown.
Gor Mahia had earlier on Saturday piled pressure on Tusker after beating Muhoroni Youth 2-0 to cut the lead at the top to a solitary point.
However, Tusker maintained their cool to avoid going into the last game with only a one point lead.
The last match of the 2016 KPL calendar pits Tusker and Gor Mahia and a defeat for the Brewers at Afraha Stadium would have ensured the title would have been decided on the final day.

Gor Mahia and Tusker FC have produced the winner of the KPL in each of the last five seasons.
The win wrapped up a successful campaign for Tusker who also won the GOtv shield earlier in the season.
Tusker coach Paul Nkata who was appointed before the start of the season, thanked his boys for putting up a brave fight, saying that he was delighted to have won two titles this season.
Nkata said.
