Ever since Lupita Nyong’o gave her awesome Oscar speech that was marked with the timeless ‘ you dreams are valid’ quote, Kenyans have taken that to heart and act on it daily.
It is the reason why one of the leading luxury stores in the world, Harrods in UK was drawn to the activities of ‘its’ local branch in Kenya. With about 12,000 employees and revenues topping 691 million sterling pounds and owned by members of Qatari royalty, it is really quite an establishment.
It is thus a big deal if it notices and takes time to answer albeit jokingly, whether a small store in Kenya was its franchise. According to Harrods, several people had made the enquiry and it felt the need to respond.
The business being referred to is a small proprietorship Kibanda that looks to be selling curios. On top of the mabati structure is a big banner with the name Harrods.
