Photos and details of how Uhuru Kenyatta’s son Jomo marriage ceremony happened at Gatundu

The long awaited Itaara Ceremony for the Uhuru Kenyatta’s son Jomo and his bride Achola finally happened yesterday.
The ceremony which is the final traditional requirement in Kikuyu wedding customs sees the bride’s family meet the bridegroom’s family at the man’s residence as they see where their daughter will be staying after the wedding.
It was an invite only affair that saw members of the extended First Family and their friends along with the diverse and large family of the bride Achola Ngobi congregate at the Kenyatta’s Ichaweri farm in Gatundu.
Top members of the Public service were also invited along with close political friends. The locals in the area were lucky as they witnessed the event at a separate compound following proceedings through a large screen mounted for them.
Miss Achola, her mother Ruth Ngobi and the Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo who is her aunt, along with other members of their family arrived at the venue at half past one.
They were warmly welcomed by the female patrons of the First Family including, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and Kiambu Women Representative Ann Nyokabi who is a cousin of President Kenyatta.
AllAfrica reports that the President himself arrived at the venue at around 2pm accompanied by his male relatives including his uncle Ngengi Muigai.
His brother Muhoho Kenyatta played the role of welcoming the guests at home officially and outlining the Kenyatta’s legacy and lineage. The Itaara ceremony is usually a women affair with men relegated to an observers role.
Later in the evening, the bride’s mother was taken to the main house to be shown where her daughter would reside after the ceremony.  Here are some photos of the ceremony showing a glimpse of how the ceremony went down
