Kenyan nominated for CNN’s international top 10 Heroes of 2016

The Peabody Award-winning and Emmy-nominated program celebrates individuals who make extraordinary contributions that help improve the lives of others.
Kenya’s Umra Omar, the founder of Safari Doctors, is among 9 people from across the globe nominated for the 2016 CNN Hero of the year.
Omar founded the Safari Doctors which delivers free healthcare to thousands of people living in remote areas, and at times dangerous, of Lamu County among others. She and her group, Safari Doctors, travel by boat, road and air to bring medical care to people living along the insecure region.
 
Omar who was living in the US moved back to Kenya in 2010 because of the urge what refers to as “a kind of a sense of responsibility.”
Raised in Kenya, she had earned degrees from two prestigious American schools, completed graduate school and was working full-time in Washington, D.C. But Omar says cubicle life wasn’t for her; she was longing to return to her native country.
And when she returned, she founded Safari Doctors an that provides, immunizations, maternal health care, respiratory infections treatment, communicable diseases treatment, access to clean water and hospital referral logistics to those in marginalised areas.
