Before Magufuli came to power last year, President Uhuru used to be king of stunts in East Africa but now the spotlight is on the Tanzanian head of state.
President John Pombe Magufuli can’t stop wowing the world. Ever since he assumed presidency last year he has introduced austerity measures that have made him to be loved with almost the same magnitude as former Uruguayan maverick president.
Magufuli made his first foreign trip since becoming president days ago and the world noticed because he did something extraordinary.
Maybe he’s cutting on cost or it’s pure PR; Instead of using the lavish presidential jet, Magufuli drove all the way from Tanzanian capital to Rwanda, a distance of almost a thousand kilometer.
His motorcade attracted huge crowds as he drove through Tanzanian countryside towards Rusumo border post for a 2 day state visit of Rwanda.
Western media such as New York Times, The Herald, BBC and several other news outlets couldn’t resist writing about Magufuli’s iconic road trip to Rwanda.
