Fred Omondi, Mbuvi and DJ Pinye To Lead Cerebral Palsy Walk
Comedians, entertainers and local celebrities are among a star-studded cast that will lead a charity walk set to be held next weekend in support of victims with cerebral palsy.
Fred Omondi, Gospel musician Mbuvi and Dj Pinye are among a hand full of prominent personalities who will grace the event and walk with the children at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday the 30th of June 2012 from 8.00am.
As an initiative of the Cerebral Palsy Society of Kenya in partnership with The Insurance Regulatory Authority, the theme for the walk will be “Partnering to Create a Stigma Free Environment” and will seek to fight stigma, create awareness and raise funds for the required therapy of cerebral palsy in Kenya.
The Cerebral Palsy Society of Kenya is a non-profit making society set up by parents of children with cerebral palsy in 1994. The centre caters for a very large number of children, approximately 200 and their families, who come to the centre on a weekly/monthly basis.
The children receive physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. They also have a home based programme, where the occupational therapists visit several homes in the neighbourhood and offer therapy services for the children who are not able to come to the clinic. The society has been in the front-run in creating awareness among parents and the public in general about cerebral palsy.
