Is The Government Punishing Joho For His Stand? See What They Have Done To His Businesses

KRA under instructions from the executive has moved to close down two freight businesses belonging to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.

The abrupt move came without a notice and no clear reason given in the letter and the gates of the two premises; Autoport Freight Terminals Limited and Portside Terminals Limited were secured with padlocks effecting the closure.

The closure happened on Thursday last week and has seen protests by importers whose goods were still in the premises. It has also seen accusations being leveled to the Jubilee government accusing forces in the government for prompting the apparent procedural move.

Association of Importers of Kenya Chairman Peter Mambembe has called the move illegeal give the lack of communication early enough. On his part Ali Hassan Joho, was quoted saying “It’s true lakini hatuna wasi wasi (we’re not panicking.)

God is with us. Clearly they’ve started fighting us. We expected this but they can even close our homes. Strangely it’s only our stations they closed.. God is with us.”

Communication from the KRA came through the regional manager George Muia who said a statement on the matter will be issued by KRA’s Commissioner General John Njiriani next week.
