Kenyan Who Became The First African To Win Top IBM Award Gives You A Chance To Learn From Him

One of the speakers at Performers Knowledge Talk will be Julian Kyula is the Group CEO and Co-founder of Mobile Decisioning Holdings Ltd (MODE), where his leadership responsibilities extends to over a hundred professional employees in 14 countries.

Kyula’s passion for people and emerging markets led to the brilliant inception of MODE which focuses on providing nano credit to people who have less or no access to credit using their hand-held mobile devices.

Under his tutelage since its launch in May 2010, MODE has risen up to become a force to reckon with in the world of technology having bagged the coveted IBM Entrepreneurship of the Year 2012 award in New York beating seven finalists from across the globe and making history as the first African start-up firm to win the award.

Famously known for his favorite saying: “nano credit in nano seconds”, he is actively engaged in Nairobi, the firm’s headquarters and Chairs several Boards including Mobile Decisioning Holdings and its subsidiaries, JDJ Holdings, Kyula Holdings, Elpis Farm Limited and serves as an E&L trustee.

Julian Kyula’s work plays a crucial role in running the vision that addresses the financial issues that affect individuals and informal groups that have been locked out by the existing financial systems after being labelled as ‘credit unworthy’, while providing high quality of service to the firm’s largest and most valued clients (Telcos).

In his mission for people empowerment and development, Julian has initiated projects that have sought to solve financial challenges for the low-income earners and worked with other key players in the industry who have similar goals to empower people through education, exposure and capacity building.

He is a sought after leader with influential media seeking for his opinion and expertise many a times. He has been featured frequently in the Dailies, Radio shows and Television namely; Hope FM, Daily Nation, NTV,KTN, K24 and CITIZEN about issues such as Economy, Risk Management, Business Start-Up & Expansion, Strategic Planning & Leadership , People Development and Kingdom Principles.

Previously, Kyula has held a wide range of leadership positions including CEO and Founder of Quest Holdings from the period of 2007-2010, General Manager at Credit Reference Bureau, and Senior Operations Analyst at Allegis Group in Houston Texas giving him extensive knowledge and experience in data analytics, financial inclusion and building algorithms.

In 2012 Business Daily recognized Julian Kyula among the youngest influential leaders in the East Africa region through the popular publication of ‘TOP 40 MEN UNDER 40’. Outside MODE, Julian Kyula balances ministry and family life with his wife Amanda Kyula. They are proud parents of two sons, Nolan and Nehemiah. Julian founded The Purpose Centre, Nairobi, where together with his wife they are committed to touching lives, impacting communities and raising Kingdom Champions in the marketplace.
