Nation Media Group In Crisis? No Bonuses For 2nd Year Running As Staff Boycott Meeting Over Galava’s Sacking

The Nation media group is no doubt quite a large behemoth not just as East Africa’s largest media house but also one of the biggest corporate organizations in the region both in terms of manpower and revenues.

It is thus expected any change or uncertainty about it creates a buzz. One such incident is the sensational sacking of its editor Denis Galava. This following the quitting of Gaddo and John Allan Namu cast a shadow over the independence of the media company.

Yesterday, a staff meeting presided by the CEO Joe Muganda saw quite a number of the staff missing in protest over the sacking of the editor an issue that appears to have affected Nation’s image even internally with some leading figures like Larry Madowo criticizing the action in stern terms.

That however is not he only issue. Certain matters seen as tradition in the media house have also been skipped. First being the end year party which the company did not hold last year.

There will also be no bonuses to the staff following a poor financial run and this will mark the second time running the NMG staff go without a bonus as the company profits fell by 130 million.

Such matters have created discontent among the journalists while also affecting the public confidence in the media house. It proves to be a challenge the new CEO will have to grapple with to avoid a full blown crisis.
