Diamond Platinumz has to be the most influential artist in this region. Gone are the days he would have to rely on collaborations with the likes of Davido to increase his reach as he has now surpassed such artistes in the continent as attested by the awards he garnered last year.

However, it is his ability to widen an artistes audience and popularity that is a bigger measure of his influence. Prior to her ‘Sweet Love’ song in which she featured the Bongo icon, Akothee was known more for her lifestyle than music and quite unheard of outside Kenya.

However, after that collaboration suddenly all doors have been opened and while not downplaying her efforts in the song nor her smarts to choose Diamond, much of this is all down to what you can can call the Diamond Effect. Not only has the song been on a constant replay, it has hit 220k views in just two weeks and now, it has even gone to MTV Base as they feature and play it. Talk of going continental!
