Museveni Buys Kenyan Built Ferry At A Cost Of Sh 310 Million (Photos)
Kenya is building and selling ferries, just in case you weren’t updated with that. MV Albert 1, a product of eight months of engineering has already been sold.
I felt proud to hear Kenya was building ferries, why lie. A Mombasa base company, Southern Engineering Company (SECO) has completed the construction of a ferry meant to be used in the neighboring Uganda.
SECO has partnered with a German ship manufacturing company, Damen Shipyards, to manufacture the Kenyan built ferry being to be used in Lake Albert.
It seems Museveni is confident with Kenyan engineering since his government bought the ferry that SECO built.
Hold it right there for a minute! Actually Ugandans have already bought 4 ferries built by Seco. Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) purchased the four ferries.
Parts of the components used to build MV Albert 1were manufactured locally while others were imported from India and Germany. UNRA coughed Kes 310 to buy the ferry.
Mombasa Governor, Hassan Joho, was among the guests present at the SECO shipyard to celebrate the completion of the Kenyan built ferry.
MV Albert 1 has a carrying capacity of 250 people and 20 vehicles. Arrangements to have the ferry transported to Uganda are underway.
