First TPF5 Nomination Night Sees 5 On Probation
Last night saw the TPF5 Academy contestants face their first ever fight for a place in the competition that is finally picking up after an extensive audition process that saw over 3,000 hopefuls get shortlisted down to 18 chosen few.
Rwanda’s Steve was the luckiest on the night, as he had immunity, meaning that he could not be put on probation by the judges on the performance night: deservedly so as he arguably had one of the best performances on the nomination night, singing Diamond’s song ‘Nimpende Nani’.
The contestants were clearly in full gear with current and contemporary hits, as the likes of Ruth performed Tiwa Savage’s ‘Kele Kele’ and received what was almost a standing ovation. The singer stepped onto the stage with such an aura of confidence and purpose that one couldn’t help but sway along to the popular tune. Even the judges agreed that that was a ‘big song’ and she had truly done it justice.
Eunice tried her hand at Avril’s brand new song ‘Kitu Kimoja’ as ALlan tried Radio and Weasal’s ‘Nakudata’ but both failed miserably in their attempt to please the judges, even though they looked the part.
South Sudan’s Mer sang Blu3’s ‘Where Were You?’, Joe expertly and melodiously sang Corneille’s ‘Avec Classe’ which the judges applauded as another great rendition but challenged the evidently talented performer to grow out of what seemed to be his comfort zone as Nancy tried her hand at Nancy’s Habibi.
Other notable performances were Sharon’s great show of Jacky Chandiru’s ‘Gold Digger’ and Fatuma’s adaptation of MTN Project Fame Season 4 winner Chidinma’s ‘Kedike’.
Ultimately at the end of the night, Doreen, Allan, Mer, Sharon and Imani were selected for probation by the judges.
