Competition Gets Stiffer For Zuku and DSTV with New Entrant
Premium television entertainment is set for increased and cut throat competition for the Kenyan consumer market with the launch of StarTimes, the latest entrant into digital broadcasting in the country, joining the likes of Zuku TV and DSTV.
With news from the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) that Kenya’s official changeover from Analogue to Digital broadcasting has been pushed from this year to 2013 to facilitate the establishment of support structures, broadcasters have been repositioning themselves to maximise on the fact that Kenyans will have to purchase set top boxes to receive the digital transmission.

StarTimes Media yesterday, 12th June 2012, announced the launch of digital TV services in the country, offering what they say are over 60 quality digital entertainment channels. Kenya happens to be the 10th African country in which the media outfit is setting up shop, with a network that spreads over East and West Africa.
Subscribers to this latest entrant will only part with Kshs.3,499 to get the transmission decoder as well as one month’s worth of subscription to the StarTimes bouquet of over 40 channels. Channels offered on the premium broadcaster include features on news, sports, finance, entertainment, music, movies, lifestyle and a whole lot more.
StarTimes will offer 7 bouquets, namely Basic, Basic Plus, Classic, Classic Plus, Unique, Unique Plus and India with prices ranging from between Kshs.499 to Kshs.2,499.
