Nairobi Half Life Star Attacked by Cyber Criminals

Maina Olwenya captivated audiences as the almost partriachal figure and lead gangster to Mwas’ gang in the crime film, Nairobi Half Life. Now, he is the victim of a new form of crime in the Kenyan cyber space.

The actor’s Facebook has been hacked by an individual who has asked his friends on the network to send cash to 0700 391 964. By the time Maina was alerted, two people had already sent money to the number.

Maina Olwenya is currently getting in touch with police as it is part of the procedure before forwarding the issue to Safaricom so they can take necessary action. After the discovery that it was not really Maina controlling the Facebook, the imposter has now gone ahead to change the account’s cover photo to read:

YOU HAVE BEEN HACKED
1=1
#foebos

A search of the hashtag brings back no results on Twitter. The profile picture was also changed to an image of a Guy Fawkes mask, which was popularized by the film, V For Vendetta, maybe alluding to something like a cause pursued by whoever is behind the whole saga, in which case, it could just be the start of something bigger.

Maina Olwenya is now appealing to his friends to unfriend the account as he tries to sort it out. The actor is one of the nominees at this year’s Kalasha Awards for his role as Oti in Nairobi Half Life.
