New Yorker Names Nairobi Half Life Director One of the Most Fascinating Africans

And the accolades for Nairobi Half Life just keep coming. One of the most prestigious publications in the world, The New Yorker, has named the film’s helmer, Tosh Gitonga, as one of the most fascinating Africans of 2012.

Tosh shares the list with Malawian President, Joyce Banda; Cameroonian LGBT rights activist, Alice Nkom; albino Tanzanian MP, Al Shaymaa Kwegyiris; the youngest African MP, 19-year old Ugandan, Proscovia Oromait; and South Africa’s voice of reason, columnist, Justice Malala.

The New Yorker praised the work the director did on his feature film debut comparing him to Congo’s Djo Tunda wa Munga, who directed last year’s breakout hit, Viva Riva! and Rwanda’s Kivu Ruhorahoza, director of Grey Matter.

Nairobi Half Life iss currently showing at Century Cinemax at the Junction at 6:45 p.m. daily until the 13th of this month. Check out the New Yorker article here.
