Veteran Sports Journalist Passes On

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the death of veteran Hezekiah Wepukhulu.

According to Goal.com, ‘Hez’, 89, has been ailing since putting down the pen two years ago and died at the country’s oldest and biggest referral facility Kenyatta National Hospital.

His death came after a career spanning 40 years in which he became one of the first Kenyan journalists to cover the Olympics and the World Cup. Wepukhulu had a distinguished career at the Daily Nation where he had a column, ‘Down Memory Lane’ in which he shed light on football’s past.

The late Wepukhulu was not only an avid fan of AFC Leopards but also a very respectable teller of the football club’s story.

He leaves behind 11 children, among them Ken Nato who used to pen sports news for The People until last month. The late is also survived by a widow, Electina.

On behalf of Ghafla! I convey our heartfelt condolences to Wepukhulu’s family and friends.
