Another Leading TV Comedian Conned!
Recently it was reported that Jalang’o and Eric Omondi were shortchanged after hosting a concert in Nyeri. Apparently, the two comedians were given a mere KSh4,500 to share after being previously promised KSh300,000 (Ksh150,000 each). And now, yet another leading TV comedian has fallen victim in the hands of crook promoters.
Easy FM and NTV’s Breaktime comedian, Obinna who is currently on a tour, dubbed Obinna Naija Tour, around Kenya’s major towns as a ‘thank you’ gift for fans for voting for The Homerun as the best Radio Show at the Social Media Awards.
So, after a thrilling show in Nakuru on August 30th that saw the funnyman fetch a handsome amount of money, his stop on August 31st was Mombasa’s Yellow Ribbon club. Thanks to a massive hype, the turnout was good but it seems the ‘Naija broda’ had tossed caution to the wind as far as the Coastal phrase; “utalijua jiji” is concerned.
Accordingly, Obinna got on stage and rocked the show and after 3 hours of rib-tickling jokes and dance his manager went to ask for their dues. And that’s when they were treated for a king size shocker (no pun intended). The event organizer handed the manager KSh7,600 and stood aside quietly.
Apparently the organizer had made it clear that he will pay for the guys in Obinna’s entourage but backtracked on that. Left with no other option, Obinna now had to deep into his pockets and use the earnings from Nakuru to sort out the crew of 8 people as well as his manager and take care of their transport, meals and accommodation.
