Tujuane’s Leaked Parody Goes Viral; ‘Leaker’ Faces ‘Consequences’
With the internet age, anything posted online that’s able to evoke the emotions of the viewer and spur them to share it will definitely go viral. This is what happened last week when a video meant for entirely for in-house audience found its way on the internets.
Rupu’s video intern, John Kamau, made a spoof of the popular blind date show, Tujuane, and then apparently leaked it on YouTube. Despite the video being purely an in-house joke, Kamau shared it with all his subscribers and since it was not attention-grabbing but also hilarious, it went viral!
Realizing this, the CEO, Ben Maina, quickly followed the parody clip up with an apology. By then, the spoof has already gathered momentum online and everyone on Twitter was talking about it. By this time the parody has over 13,000 views.
This clearly meant that the intern faced dire consequences but that was never to be.
Seeing how successful the parody had become, Rupu decided to look at it from the business perspective. With such viral videos it would equate to increased revenues from its online deals.
Kamau, instead of being shown the door, was hired as the new creative designer for Rupu and is currently working on his second edit of ‘Tujuane’ featuring Rahab & Dennis that aired on the 5th Nov, 2013.
