Uncle Chim Tuna Speaks: This Is The Only Quality You Need To Be A Successful Actor In Kenya
The other day I was arguing with one of my colleagues, Adam Wagwau. He is one of those “artistic types” who feel his approval is necessary for something to be deemed cool or quality. It doesn’t but don’t let him know that. And the argument was centred around whether or not Kenya has truly talented actors.
And before you go off on a tangent:
Kenya does indeed have talented actors but we always go for beauty and aesthetically endowed individuals and end up sacrificing talent at the alter of beauty. Think about it. The people whom Kenya has for household name actors are sometime boring and wooden.
Yet they get all the opportunities simply because they look good. Now look to the West for what acting is about. Look at someone like Micheal Chiklis and Forest Whitaker. Some very talented actors who are not exactly lookers.
Then come back to Kenya. Would Kenyans ever have given Lupita Nyong’o the time of day before she became Hollywood’s “IT” girl? Last year i did a list of the women I consider sexy and the internets went up in arms when I included her on the list.
I have said before that she was the strongest cast member of Shuga and have endured the insults about my taste in women. Now she is suddenly some retard’s notion of “Team Darkskin” as if black people are anything but dark.
Kenya needs to reboot the current crop of actors. F5 the formula and start picking people based on talent, not on looks and clout!
