Outrage after PwC Sends Home One of Their Receptionists for Not Wearing High Heels

PWC, a multinational auditing company has found itself in a gender-bias quagmire after allegedly sending home a receptionist for not wearing heels.

Nicola Thorp, a 27 year old actress and temp was sent home for not wearing heels at a new job at PwC in London

A receptionist has claimed she was sent home without pay and laughed at for refusing an order to wear high heels in her new job at PwC (Portico) in London last December.

Speaking online Nicola said “That day I was wearing flat black shoes and they gave me a dress to wear and a jacket, which I put on, and the supervisor said: ‘Well, you’re not going to wear those. We only have women in heels at reception’.

“I pointed to a male colleague and said, ‘Well, he is wearing flat shoes, why can’t I?’, and of course that is [when I was] laughed at.” she said.

After this incident the receptionist set up an online petition to make it illegal for women to forcefully wear heels to work, so far the petition has over 40,000 signatures.

The PwC outsourcing company; Portico is now reviewing its guidelines after the outrage on the web.
