The country was once again thrown into a somber mood after news of the passing on of Mzee Ojwang Hatari of Vitimbi.

Mzee Ojwang is one of the most popular figures in the Kenyan acting industry, and almost everyone who grew up from the early 90s knows how good he was as the main character in the oldest TV comedy, Vitimbi.

The death of Mzee Ojwang was not an expected thing amongst us despite the old man falling ill regularly and living below the poverty line.

And as condolences trickle in from across the world to the family and friends of the late Mzee Ojwang, one BBC anchor has shared her moments with Mzee Ojwang.

Sophie Ikenye, a Kenyan journalist who works with the BBC has said what she knew about Mzee Ojwang, her days with him when she worked for KBC before moving to England to work with BBC.

Through photos she took with Mzee Ojwang’ Sophie says that was always feted because of his genius as an actor and comedian.

She said:

To the vitimbi team and all Kenyans who enjoyed mzee Ojwang. My condolences. These photos that I hold dearly were taken many years back during an eastlands achievement award ceremony. He was feted then. Rip Benson Wanjau.
