Veteran comedian Mzee Ojwang Hatari is dead!
The dead of one of Kenya’s finest comedians-cum-actors occurred today evening at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Mzee Ojwang had been rushed to the hospital after falling ill abruptly, and was pronounced dead shortly after.
Unconfirmed sources indicate that Ojwang died of Pneumonia at around 8pm.
Ojwang fell ill early this year and was rescued and admitted after his impoverished state was highlighted.
He had become blind and couldn’t afford treatment because of poverty.
Ojwang is among the pioneers of comedy in Kenya and his role in the Vitimbi Show on KBC earned him national fame.
He was born Benson Wanjau in 1937 in Nyeri but embraced a Luo character which he mastered perfectly.
