In A Bid To Impress Barack Obama, This Is The Sacrifice Kidero Has Made Nairobi Street Kids Pay

It is now official that US President Barack Obama, who is considered the most powerful man on earth, will land in the country come the 24th of this month. This is after his security cars and planes were spotted in Nairobi a few days ago.

The government has been doing all possible to make Nairobi a wonderful city as the world makes a stop in the capital come the 22nd of this month for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) at the KICC.

Among the things that have been done is to beautify the capital by planting flower s along the roads the Obama is expected to use and making them smoother by clearing potholes.

But the latest development is a disgusting one. The Nairobi County government is planning to drive all street kids out of the city in order to what they say is enhance security and make the city clean ahead of the summit.

According to Leah Oyake who is the county environment chief officer, the move is aimed to clear everything to make the city clean, reports Nation.

This is the highest case of pretense and hypocrisy the county government is about to display. I mean, why do they want to lie to visitors that Nairobi and Kenya have no street kids yet they are all over?

What happened to the plan by government to take all kids to rehabilitation centres? Why wait for Obama and his entourage to move away the street children?

These are some of the hard questions the county government should answer before they even think of such pretense.

Street kids need to be rehabilitated. They need to be removed from the streets and rehabilitated, yes, but not when Obama is coming that one sees the need to chase them away.
