Mama Kayai Emotionally Recalls Mzee Ojwang’s Last Moments, Narrates The Plight He Went Through Before He Met His Death

The famous Vitimbi actor Mzee Ojwang Hatari passed on yesterday after losing his battle with pneumonia at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Mzee Ojwang was rushed to the hosipital after falling ill, but as fate would be, he passed on at the age of 78 years.

Famously known as Mzee Ojwang Hatari, Benson Wanjau built a name for himself as the oldest and finest comedian-cum-actor who graced our screens when KBC was the only TV station in Kenya. Even after others came up, Mzee Ojwang’s game remained on top.

One of his co-actors and who acted as his wife was Mama Kayai, who alongside the late Ojwang, produced some of the finest episodes of Vitimbi.

And after the passing on of one of Kenya’s oldest actors and her friend, Mama Kayai has emotionally spoken of Mzee Ojwang, his days and life after leaving KBC.

It can be remembered that early this year Mzee Ojwang’s story hit headlines when he fell blind and could not afford medication due to poverty. He lived in abject poverty until his death.

This is what has greatly angered Mama Kayai who spill the beans on how the government which Mzee Ojwang served diligently neglected him after leaving KBC.

Mama Kayai said that when he was alive, Mzee Ojwang made every effort to reach out to President Uhuru to share a word with him but his efforts bore no fruit. She says that the authorities neglected him and other Vitimbi actors.

She also lamented how no one cared for Mzee Ojwang until his death. She said that now people are coming out to shower praise on Mzee Ojwang and will be willing to give him a befitting sendoff yet no one cared about him when he lived.

Mama Kayai bashed the government for neglecting the late Mzee. Her emotions could be heard on radio as she narrated Mzee Ojwang’s last moments before he ended his journey.

Mama Kayai was speaking to Larry Asego on Classic 105 this morning.
