Javelin Great Julius Yego Offers A Contradictory Statement Over The 1 Billion Citizenship Switch Deal
YouTube athlete set African record with his 92.72m throw at the recently concluded IAAF World Championship in Beijing China. His success also attracted the eyes of high-ranking Qatari officials who allegedly wanted to sign him to their side.
Word in the street had it that Qatari government was ready to spew a billion shillings on Julius Yego were he to switch citizenship.
The news caused emotions to flare given that Qatar and Bahrain are notorious for convincing Kenyan athletes to switch nationalities.
While it was also said Yego turned down the offer, the athlete issued a contradictory statement when he touched down at JKIA yesterday.
During an interview with Nation, the YouTube athlete disclosed he never refused the Qatari deal because he was never approached by officials from the Arab country as it was earlier purported.
Yego affirmed no country approached him for citizenship switch deal further explaining he wouldn’t betray Kenya for money.
He said Kenyan athletes who were lured by handsome offer to change nationality have come back home poorer than they left!
