Where Did They Go? – Henrie Mutuku

Introducing a brand new feature on Ghafla!, the ‘Where did they go?’ series seeks to look at Kenyan artistes who made it big at some point in their career but left the scene just as abruptly. We’d like you to comment after the article with your remarks, discoveries or questions and when the week is over, we will proceed with a follow up piece.

This week we ask, where did Henrie Mutuku go?

Remember the gospel artiste who splashed onto the local music screen with her sweet and sultry vocals and even went ahead to win a KORA award back in 2002 alongside the established Eric Wainaina?

Henrie started out steadily as a background vocal artiste for other gospel musicians such as Pete Odera then featured in a compilation album titled ‘Rebirth’ in the same year that she won the KORA award.

Her album ‘Simama’ saw her collab with industry greats such as Roughtone and R.K, as her other song of the album ‘Manzi wa Maana’ became a massive success.

The following year she won 2 Kisima Awards for Best Female Artiste and Best Contemporary Gospel Artiste.
