Kenya’s Next Neosoul/Afro-Jazz Queen Mumala Set To Release Her Debut Song!

People who think they can sing are a dime a dozen.

However, there are those that the verb sing is an understatement. The word applicable is sang. One of those people who can really sang happens to be Mumala. I wrote about her here, so you have to read that! She shut it down, when she did an absolutely other worldy rendition of Prince’s how come you don’t call me. I still get butterflies when I remember that performance. You probably know the Alicia Keys rendition. Mumala’s voice has been described as the perfect marriage between Asa, India Arie and Jill Scott. I concur.

well She releases her debut song tomorrow, but rumour has it that she shall be on Tina Kaggia’s show in the afternoon just to create a major buzz. This girl kills it on stage, and it’s hard to reconcile the high-note hitting diva, and the self deprecationg young lady off stage! She recently performed at Blankets backed by Wangui Githu, Prisca Ojwang and Trina Mungai which is a testament of things to come. To read about an upcoming event by Prisca and Trina next weekend, click here.

Her debut single is titled where did the love go, which she has performed in Nairobi sessions. Listen to it below in anticipation of what will be! The cover picture which also happens to be my profile picture on Facebook, was done by famed photographer Mutua Matheka. That explains the awesomeness with which it is endowed. And yes, I know people! She has been writing music since age twelve I believe, so her songwriting prowess has been tried, tested and refined by fire. And no it’s not a joke that she can hold a candle to the very best in Africa, her voice range and tone aare amazing!

Here’s that video.
