Fast-rising Rapper Takes Up on Where Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj Left

Repping Kawangware, Nairobi and having wrote and released his first ever spoken word album, My first Pieces just four months after high school. MC Mwakenya has held ground in hip-hop since starting out in 2010.

He has released several hits including his latest ‘Mziki’ featuring veteran rapper Labalaa and songstress Beetow. Currently, he’s working on a single mixtape/rendition ‘Mshe wa High School’ to be laid over Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj ‘High School’ beats. He says the mix will be out by start of next week.

“I’m preparing a freeflow track for my fans. It’s actually my own version of ‘High School’ by Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. Just a simple track to keep my fans on toes and will be out next week,” he said.

Drawn to hip-hop music by his elder brother, who was a partial rapper then, he was streamlined by the squalid living conditions in his neighbourhood. Musically, he got inspiration/influenced by rap artists such as Common, Talib Kwali, Lupe Fiasco, Dead Prez, Nas, Cassidy and other African musicians such as Eric Wainaina,Oliver Ntukudzi,K-shaka and K-south, among many others.
