Eric Wainaina Lands a New Leading Role on TPF6

Celebrated Kenyan musician Eric Wainaina has just had another feather added to his sombrero. Last night, after a period of long speculation, the 40 year old singer-songwriter was unveiled as the new Tusker Project Fame 6 academy principal.

Eric takes over from Hellen Akoth Mtawali who had been the reality show’s academy principal in the previous seasons. Eric shot into the limelight in 2001 when he launched his debut album, Sawa Sawa.

Wainaina’s music is a blend of Kenyan Benga rhythm and East African guitars, with some modern harmony.

His notable releases include ‘Kenya Only’, a song that instantly made him Kenya’s favourite modern musician. After the 1998 terrorist bombing in Nairobi where over 200 Kenyans lost their lives, ‘Kenya Only’ was adopted as the unofficial song of mourning, receiving extensive radio and TV airplay nation-wide.
