P-Unit Heads South With Their New Track
In the past year they expressed their music prowess by exploring different genres of music with their provoking reggae collabo featuring Collo “You Guy” and later the exhilarating lingala collabo “Mobimba” featuring Alicios.
Last Friday, the dynamic genge trio, now in their tenth year of music have released a new single “Show Time” set in South African version of house music popularly known as Kwaito.
Boneye, Frasha and Gabu AKA P Unit narrate of being inspired on this track by reflections of their life experience which is an intricate balance between a career in architecture, fashion and medicine by day respectively and entertainment through their music by night.
“Show Time” a unique musical production by Decimal Records blends well with the groups’ musical strategy with its kwaito style targeted to allow the band to tap into the lucrative Southern Africa market. In a press release shared with media, Gabu of P Unit says, “We had great success with our last two hits making it into the charts in the West African market and this proved to us the versatility of our style of ‘genge’ music inspiring us to make this latest move to Kwaito.”
The chorus of the new track has a noticeable mention of a local brandy produced by EABL ‘Richot’. The incorporation of brands in musical content is no longer a new phenomenon across the globe with several top rap artistes such as Ace Hood and Drake popularization of top brands Bugatti and Versace respectively. Commenting on this Frasha of P Unit says, “Above all else – we are Kenyans first and just as we are a home grown product we are proud of other local brands and therefore our choice of Richot was by no means accidental.”
