When Old and New Rappers Beef: Here are the Top 3 Clashes
If you’ve been following the Kenyan showbiz scene, then you would know that some of the best “spitters in the game”, have been beefing for a while now. Rappers have been involved in this beef that has perhaps brought the best of Kenyan Rap competition. However, the most epic clashes have been between “up-and-coming young’ns” artists & the artists who’ve been around much longer.
Kenyan hip hop has been marked by intergenerational warfare since Abbas battled Octopizzo. Confident, up-and-coming young’ns say OGs don’t want to make way for the new, while old heads say the youth don’t respect the architects.
Here’s a list of the most popular clashes this industry has witnessed;
#1 Abbas & Octopizzo
The beef has been on-going on since Octo shot into the spotlight back in 2009. It didn’t help the situation when Abbas took a stab at the ‘King of Genge’ Jua Cali and Octopizzo coming up to defend his honor. The beef was squashed ahead of their peace campaign with other Music Copyright Society members to aid the IDP’s countrywide. The two are willing to put their differences aside for a good course and of course the money does hurt.
However, hell broke loose in October when the Rap legend went on a short twitter rant tearing apart Octopizzo.
#2 Bamboo & Octopizzo
Either old rappers seem to have discovered Octopizzo’s soft under belly or Octo is simply on top of his game. Earlier in the year, K-South’s Bamboo hit out at the Namba Nane artist on Twitter in what was one of the most epic tweefs witnessed with yet another rapper being dragged in it.
It even had one of the biggest hip hop heads, Chiwawa, weighing on it and even tried to act a mediator. The two would later sort out their differences…for real.
#3 Rap Damu & Kenrazy
This is the real deal of friends-turned-foes. It all started when Ghipuka rapper, Kenrazy parted ways with Pacho, a record label affiliated to Rap Damu. It all started when Kenrazy, who had been a no-show in the music industry for a while, revealed that his musical career almost went to the dogs thanks to fellow rapper and music producer Rap Damu.
Rap Damu returned fire by spilling the beans about Kenrazy saying he lied about the whole management thing that Razy had alleged.
This beef had Kenrazy run straight into the open arms of Grandpa Records and pitch tent there.
