Mdundo: The Miracle That Happened to Kenyan Artistes

Kenya’s fastest – growing online music distributor, Mdundo, is embarking on a 10 week media tour in an effort to understand the challenges and opportunities in the Kenyan music industry.

Over the next few weeks, Mdundo artists and team members will be going round local radio and TV stations to discuss online distribution.

Thiru Mungai, the firm’s Head of Music says, “For most artists, music is predominantly a marketing tool and this is one of the things we want to change over the next years.  We would like to give artists an opportunity to discuss the benefits of different services and how we can develop the music industry as a whole.”

The tour, which kicked off on 12th July, 2014, has seen artists such as Taio Tripper and Makalizu together with the Mdundo team visit various radio and television shows including Str8 Up, Hits Not Homework and Adelle’s show on Kiss 100.

Mdundo artist, Octopizzo says, “Kenyans are not in the habit of spending money on music, we love freebies but it’s about time that we learn to appreciate the efforts of artists by paying for their music.”
