They Have Built Some Of The Best Music Bands In Kenya, But Beyond Their Famous Bands They Are Little Known Or Recognised (Case: Sauti Sol)- Part 1

Kenya is among the countries known in Africa to posses very talented musicians. Among these musicians are very talented bands with individual talents that have in one way or the other sold the Kenyan music to the greater heights.

From Sauti Sol to Elani to H_art, a number of great bands have always entertained the world with verve and vigour, with individual talents blending well, with easy and volition to give the world what can arguably be the best music to be ever produced by Kenyans.

Sauti Sol are the oldest in this industry since they were incepted almost a decate ago. After them came the latest that are doing so good. I mean Elani and now H_art.

But what is so worrying is that beyond their bands, these talented musicians are not individually known by Kenyans, and if at all they do, they are recognised by very few Kenyans. That is sad but why?

We start off with a detailed analysis of the Sauti Sol band, group or quartet as you may call it.

Sauti Sol is the most famous singing group in Kenya today. No group has reached its heights. They started off their career back in 2005 as a Kenyan afro-pop band formed in Nairobi by vocalists Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano and Delvin Mudigi. When Polycarp Otieno joined, they changed themselves from a capella group to Sauti.

Since then, the band has grown steadily, taking control of the music industry in Kenya, winning various accolades and propelling themselves to greater heights and to the international fame.

Their songs have been hit by hit, catapulting them to different nominations across the globe, home and away impressing the masses.

However, beyond the name Sauti Sol, the individuals in the group are little known or recognised by many Kenyans.

This, Ghafla Kenya has consistently noted with interest and opted to let you know. A closer study on the individual engagements on social media shows that they have limited following or sometimes none.

For instance, when they post anything on their individual social media accounts, there are very limited responses or none.

Bien-Aime Baraza for instance has no followers on facebook despite him trying to be a bit active. We looked into his facebook account, Bien Aime Baraza and realised his latest post that was a photo he put up holding a beautiful lady close.

Surprisingly, the photo attracted just one comment and 11 likes. Well, for a celebrity of Bien’s stature, we expect a million comments and a trillion likes. Just one and 11? iYawa!

Then there is his colleague Willis Austin Chimano. Chimano, like Bien, has little following on facebook. His last post was made on November 18 and it attracted just seven likes and one share. IYawa!

Delvin Savara Mudigi, their third colleague is also on facebook. Surprisingly, his last post was 23 hours ago asking fans to like his new page because he was pulling down the current one. Why is he pulling it down? His fans don’t know him on facebook.

And even if they know him personally, they are very few and are not active as they should be. Interestingly, this post got just two likes. Even his new page Savara Mudigi has very little likes. I added mine too.

Lastly is their colleague Polycarp. He is not on facebook. He is on twitter. Here, he had 3346 followers before I added mine to make it 3347. A celebrity like Polycarp should have thousands of followers.

Well that is how brutal Kenyans can be. They are interested with the band, Sauti Sol, not the individual members of the band.
