Is Jua Cali Starting A War With Rapper Rabbit? His Statements Betray Him

Jua Cali is one of the few Kenyan singers who have been in the industry for more than a decade. Famously known for his Genge music, Jua Cali, who released the hit jam Karibu Nairobi recently, has been a fans’ favourite despite his music career having ups and downs.

And now for the first time in Kenya there is likely to be beef between the Genge fraternity and that of the hip hop world.

It was just early this month when rapper Rabbit aka Kaka Sungura showed his middle finger to the Kenyan media to protest what he said is giving foreign music massive airplay at the expense of local music.

Rabbit clearly showed his frustration at what he alleged is neglecting the local talent in favour of foreign artistes.

However, Jua Cali has come out to bash those castigating foreign music saying that if they do not produce good music they should not expect airplay.

Speaking to the Pulse, Jua Cali is quoted as saying that he personally enjoys Nigerian music because Nigerians know how to do their thing.

He told Pulse, “We danced to lingala when we were young. We enjoyed rhumba and ragga back then. The Kenyan entertainment scene is diverse and we have always moved with what works at a given time. That is common-sense guys. What is all this buzz about? Get real”

He continued: “Nigerian music is good and very danceable. People should stop complaining and dance to good music. Local artistes need to work hard regardless of what is currently popular. Besides, if your music is good, fans will embrace it”.

Jua Cali clearly seems to take a dig at Rabbit who complained that Kenyan music is not played as Nigerian and other foreign music.

This dis is likely to inject fresh beef between these artistes. Let’s watch this space.
