The driver of the pimped matatu is squarely to be blamed for the grisly accident that happened in Langata yesterday.

Four people died while six others escaped with injuries yesterday when a Rongai matatu veered off the road and overturned along Langata Road.

The driver of the matatu was said to be speeding on the wrong side of the road when the matatu overturned. The Ongataline sacco matatu was heading to town at the time of the accident.

NTSA official confirmed the matatu that caused the accident was among other matatus from that sacco that were detained for 5 days last week for flouting traffic rules.

Even more disturbing, the driver that caused the accident was not the designated driver licensed by the sacco, he was a tout only known as ‘Jamaa wa squad’.

As if that’s not enough shocker, the Ongataline sacco matatu that killed four passengers was not meant to be on the road that Sunday as it was scheduled for routine inspection at Industrial Area that same day.
